Ilias Spais is a Senior IT Project Manager and researcher. He has received a diploma in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Patras in 2000, and a PhD degree in Analysis, Design and Development of Processes, Systems and Computer Engineering from the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA) in 2006. His research activities were entitled as “Speech synthesis and recognition in Greek Language – Enhancements in pitch analysis”.
Ilias main research interests include natural language engineering, text-to-speech analysis in Greek language (pitch analysis), speech processing, text/document analysis, usability evaluation, intonation, spoken dialogue systems, universal accessibility (web accessibility), design-for-all, document-to-audio, speech acoustics and evaluation.
The last ten years he has been involved in several research projects in the context of the ICT framework serving as project manager, research associate and senior developer. More specifically, he has been involved in European and National R&D projects that are active in the domains of Factories of the Future, Social Media, Cloud computing, Internet of Things, Big Data Analytics, Model-Driven Software Engineering, Quality-Driven Software Engineering, Opinion mining, Sentiment Analysis, Spoken Dialogue Systems, Speech Prosody and Natural Language Processing.
